Easy Garter Stitch Slippers

While visiting my brother's family, my 3-year old niece became jealous of the baby blanket I knit her newborn sister so I decided to make her slippers out of some leftover yarn from the purple mittens with flaps and warm flower headband. The first attempt was a little snug so I altered the pattern so that the second slipper fit perfectly! The pattern for these slippers can be found here.

Finished! The pattern is for the slipper to the left.

Peachy Baby Blanket

To welcome my newest niece to the world, I did what I do best! I got to knitting and made this blanket. I found this awesome baby blanket yarn at Joann's - Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn. It is super soft and feels like a plush blanket when knit up. I bought 2 skeins of "peachy" and got to work.

I originally intended the blanket to be a square with a target pattern of varying knitting stitches. However, halfway through I realized that I did not have enough yarn or time to finish the entire blanket. I edited the pattern to be a rectangle as diagrammed below. It still ended up plenty large enough for the new little one measuring in at approximately 48" by 32". I used a 29" size 10.5 needle to hold all the stitches.

Rice Crispie Castle

This rice crispie treat castle is the perfect addition to a summer party because it looks like a sand castle. To make this, I used a rice crispie recipe. Normally when I make rice crispy treats, I add a extra marshmallows and butter to make them very gooey. However, this time I made them according to the following recipe, substituting Lucky Charms and Crunchberries for Rice Crispies:

2 tbs margarine or butter
6 cups mini marshmallows
6 cups cereal

Melt the margarine/butter in a double boiler, add in the marshmallows slowly and continue stirring until everything is melted. Pour the marshmallow mixture over the cereal and mix thouroughly.

For the "ground," I used lucky charms and flattened them on a tray coated with cooking spray. For the castle, I made two batches of the recipe above and pressed the treats into 2 thoroughly greased circular tupperware - one large one and one small one - and I let the treats cool in the fridge for ~30 minutes. After the treats had cooled, I eased them out of the tupperware and assembled the castle. As a finishing touch, I made a flag out of a bamboo skewer and some paper.

I made this treat for Erica and Beth's going away party (party in a bag theme). I miss them!

Simple Tan Hat

This hat will fit an adult head and is super warm. If you want to make it for yourself, click here for the pattern. I designed it to be knit with large needles and 2 strands of yarn as one, so it is a pretty warm hat.

You can even wear the hat inside out
